Marcela Reyes
A creative storyteller, I am specialized in all things content and comms. I believe that ideas and words have the power to transform realities, and they represent infinite possibilities when they become simple, beautiful, and well-written content. I have 15 years of professional experience directing and executing content and communications strategies –both in English and Spanish– for a wide array of projects that include: political campaigns, local government, new media, non-profits, cultural projects, and innovation organizations.

I created high-quality processes, campaigns, content, and services for all of ASAP’s communication platforms. My role was critical to sharing program opportunities and accomplishments, up-lifting member stories, building the ASAP brand, and strengthening the adaptation field by providing compelling, consistent, timely communications to current and prospective ASAP members, partners, funders and the media. The day-to-day communications work consisted of reconfiguring ASAP’s overall communications and content strategy to make it more effective, accessible and equitable. This included, but was not limited to: overseeing and redesigning periodic publications, managing audiences, developing a Social Media strategy, as well as implementing UX best practices for their website and transitioning the organization’s content and communications products into plain-language.

I was part of a special team under a grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies working on local issues. We worked on redesigning services and funding streams to address displacement mitigation and allow for people to stay housed. Day-to-day tasks included: Exploring content for governance, overseeing the design of user-centered content, providing content recommendations - both internally and to our client department, redesigning experiences through content, making content more accessible for communities and City stakeholders and collaborating with our client department to provide direction and best content practices.

I was in charge of creating a comprehensive and detailed plan for each edition of the Festival. That included: creating a concept and narrative for each edition of the festival, supervising the Press & Social Media Department, coordinating editorial calendar, and overseeing partnerships and collaborations –branding agencies, designers, filmmakers, directors, editors, translators, designers, copywriters, media partners, amongst others. For the 2014 edition, I was in charge of overseeing the redesign of the website to improve navigation and increase traffic. I specifically provided assistance with information architecture, content strategy that included plain language, and created new targeted sites for specific audiences, e.g. Virtual Press Room. Previous collaborations with the festival include working as Press Officer from 2011 – 2013

My job was to coordinate and oversee all editorial content in its different formats. I also worked closely with Research and Design Strategists to define and refine research methods, define qualitative parameters for research, and create content structures for our findings, observations, and insights. I translated complex concepts into more accessible information, both for the team and for our stakeholders, and created frameworks for different types of content.
